Food Preparation & Preservation
A Regenerative Stewardship Opportunity
What is a Regenerative Stewardship Opportunity (RSO)?
Why are we offering this opportunity?
To be completely transparent, we wanted to create an opportunity that provides people with a starting point to become long-term residents and contributors to Winderong Farm. The vast majority of Winderong’s evolution has been shaped by a handful of core long-term members collaborating with short-term volunteers from all over the world. We really enjoy hosting short-term residents but it’s not a sustainable model for us to evolve Winderong into its full potential!
Who can apply?
The long-term vision for Winderong is a village of diverse and driven people who co-create a resilient, nurturing and holistically regenerative space. Our Regenerative Stewardships are one pathway towards this vision so we’re very open about who can participate!
What kind of learning experience should you expect?
About Winderong Farm:
Winderong Farm is an experimental project encompassing permaculture, regenerative agriculture, bush regeneration, sustainability and communal living. Set on 810 acres in beautiful Dharawal country, Kangaroo Valley, Winderong is an abundant interweaving of bushland, rainforest, and pastural ecosystems sustained by vibrant creeks and springs. Our growing community consists of around 12-15 full-time residents, as well as nearly a dozen local employees and a host of beautiful and much-loved farm animals and wildlife. We aim to embody the permaculture philosophy that “we are nature working” and develop a deep understanding and respect for the land we steward, all the while aiming to regenerate the earth and learn from her and each other.

"I've had the pleasure of spending 8-months here at Winderong Farm, and oh boy, has it been my best adventure yet. My food preparation and preservation internship has been an opportunity of endless learning and has exponentially expanded my skill levels. I've learnt the art of fermenting, canning, preserving, cheese-making, harvesting, organic gardening, seed-saving, herbal medicine making, foraging, bee-keeping, cow milking and the list goes on. My creative capacity has expanded beyond what I ever thought was possible. I have learnt to trust my intuition in the kitchen and use all of my senses in the creation process. I have loved attending workshops and working-bees for more broader community members organised by the farm. Being a part of this web of giving and receiving has been a big realisation of the true meaning of heart-centred living. Community life on the farm has been one of my biggest teachers during my stay and has been a divine test of resilience and responsibility. Stepping up to my roles and duties within the farm gave me a sense of belonging while enhancing my independence. I feel a big transformation in the way I show up and hold myself. I can't forget to mention how homely I have felt amongst this beautiful community. Their safe and supportive presence has been the catalyst to my beaming authentic self-expression. Upon reflection as I leave, I have never felt more empowered in my identity and my actions than now. Seeds of beautiful change have been planted in my heart and I cannot wait to spread these seeds into the hearts of others. With every ounce of my being, thank you Winderong Farm and the whole community who makes this place so special and transformative."

October 2024 - June 2025"When I arrived at Winderong, I was excited and hopeful, but also a little nervous. There were times that I had to ask myself, ‘am I really ready for this?’. I had never really experienced communal life and the concept was daunting. But before I knew it, I was confidently milking cows in the morning and harvesting vegetables from the garden. After a while I was making cheese and other dairy products, and then cooking lunch and/or dinner for 15+ people. These are the things that give meaning to life, and Winderong offers the space to do it. At Winderong, all the noise is turned down, and everything that matters in life is turned up. My experience here is best summarised by a quote from Viktor Frankl, ‘the meaning of life is to give meaning to life’. If this means anything to you, then I encourage you to apply for the Winderong internship."
